In choosing to win the toss, England took advantage of the offer, 4-55 took by Chris Woakes in his first test in a year and 3-38 took a great start to his international career.

Although 50 of Captain Virat Kohli were discovered 127-7 in India, the quickest cricket in the English Test was Shardul Thakur who crashed a 31 ball half century.
